South African Fintech Fynbos Money Integrates Leading AI Assistants for Personalized Investment Insights

Cape Town-based investtech startup Fynbos Money has launched a new feature allowing its customers to directly connect their investment portfolios to popular AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude. This integration empowers individual investors to query their personal financial data in plain language, gaining access to detailed analysis and insights that traditionally required specialist financial knowledge.
The platform, founded in 2024 by Adrian Hope-Bailie, consolidates various financial products into a single interface. By enabling users to ask questions such as "Has my money grown, or have I just deposited more?" or "What am I actually invested in?", Fynbos Money aims to democratize access to financial understanding, making complex investment information more digestible and actionable for everyday users.
This approach, dubbed 'bring your own intelligence,' leverages an open standard called Model Context Protocol (MCP), ensuring customers are not locked into a single AI provider. The connection is optional and read-only, meaning AI assistants can analyze data and perform calculations but cannot execute transactions or alter account settings, addressing potential security and control concerns. This development positions Fynbos Money as an innovator in making advanced AI tools directly accessible to individual African investors, rather than solely to financial professionals.
