Talent Nation Secures Pre-Seed Funding to Cultivate One Million African AI Engineers

Talent Nation, co-founded by Nigerian and South African entrepreneurs, has successfully closed an undisclosed pre-seed funding round. The startup's ambitious goal is to train and deploy one million African AI engineers globally over the next ten years. This initiative directly addresses the growing worldwide demand for AI talent, providing a significant opportunity for African professionals to contribute to and benefit from the global AI economy.

The investment round saw participation from notable firms including Enza Capital, LocalGlobe, Future Africa, and others. Talent Nation's model, called Learn2Earn, focuses on identifying, training, certifying, and placing engineers into companies that need to build and manage their own AI capabilities. The company reports high demand, having received over 63,000 applications and enrolled approximately 1,400 fellows across nine campuses in six cities, with a highly selective admission rate below 3%.

This venture is particularly significant for Africa as it aims to leverage the continent's talent pool to lower the cost of AI deployment globally and create new economic opportunities. By training a large cadre of skilled AI engineers, Talent Nation seeks to empower businesses to adopt AI more readily and reduce reliance on expensive external providers. The company's unique financing model, where revenue from enterprise engagements funds further training and graduates contribute to future cohorts, ensures accessibility without upfront fees for candidates.

Founders Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Kesiah Valkin emphasize that talent is a critical constraint to advanced AI development. Their vision is to make certified AI engineering talent accessible and affordable, bridging the gap between African potential and global industry needs. This move positions Africa as a key player in supplying the specialized human capital required for the widespread adoption and integration of AI technologies.
