NTT DATA Launches Agentic AI Platform to Revolutionize Kenya's Insurance Sector

NTT DATA has introduced a new agentic AI platform, "NTT DATA AI for Insurance," specifically targeting Kenya's expanding insurance industry. This platform is designed to automate complex operations such as underwriting, claims processing, and customer service by integrating configurable AI agents, insurance-specific data models, and workflow orchestration through its AIVista platform. The goal is to transform traditional workflows into governed, repeatable AI-driven services while maintaining essential human oversight and regulatory compliance.
The launch comes at a crucial time for Kenya's insurance sector, which is experiencing significant growth. Long-term insurance premiums surged by 36.3% in Q1 2026, and industry assets exceeded KES 1.1 trillion. This expansion creates pressure for insurers to enhance efficiency, improve fraud detection, and manage increasing volumes of data and operations digitally. NTT DATA's solution aims to help Kenyan insurers navigate these challenges by moving beyond basic chatbots to a more integrated AI operating layer that coordinates AI agents, employees, and enterprise systems.
NTT DATA emphasizes that its platform is built to integrate with existing carrier systems, allowing insurers to adopt AI without overhauling their core infrastructure. The company's global lead for insurance, Bruno Abril, highlights that AI strengthens insurers' ability to meet their responsibilities in risk assessment and customer commitment. Richard Hechle, Managing Director of NTT DATA East Africa, notes that AI is becoming a strategic imperative for insurers in the East African market as customer expectations evolve.
The platform includes an insurance data genome to provide AI agents with context from various insurance documents and regulatory requirements. This specialized approach, combined with prebuilt and configurable agents, aims to accelerate deployment into insurance workflows. NTT DATA's strategy in Kenya reflects a broader trend in enterprise AI, where companies seek comprehensive systems that can execute multi-step business processes under defined rules and oversight, rather than just standalone AI tools.
