Injini Launches AI for Education Venture Builder in Southern Africa to Foster Local Solutions

Cape Town-based ed-tech incubator Injini has announced the launch of its AI for Education venture builder and incubation program. This initiative, supported by Coefficient Giving, aims to guide pre-formed teams from initial ideas to the development of market-ready, impactful ed-tech startups utilizing AI.

Injini, a non-profit founded in 2017 and part of the UVU Africa Group, is dedicated to improving educational outcomes across Sub-Saharan Africa. The new program specifically addresses the need for AI tools tailored to African classrooms, recognizing the continent's underrepresentation in AI training data and the risk of developing solutions that are not effective locally.

The eight-month program is structured in two phases: a five-month Venture Build phase focusing on problem validation, solution design, MVP development, and live piloting of AI-powered products; followed by a three-month Incubation phase for the top five teams. These teams will further develop their products, strengthen business models, and receive $25,000 in equity-free seed capital.

Applications are open to teams based in Southern African countries including South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This program is a crucial step towards fostering indigenous AI solutions that are contextually relevant and effective for the region's educational challenges.
