Cascador Accelerator Fuels African Startup Growth with $5 Million Investment, Backing AI Innovation in Nigeria
Cascador, an accelerator program dedicated to growth-stage founders across Africa, recently announced the distribution of $5 million in equity and debt funding to seven startups during its Pitch Day 2026 event. Held in Lagos, Nigeria, the event showcased the culmination of Cascador's 12-week ScaleUp program. This latest funding round brings the total investment awarded through Pitch Day to over $9 million in just two years, underscoring Cascador's commitment to nurturing a new generation of African entrepreneurs capable of scaling transformative businesses.
Unlike traditional accelerator models such as Y Combinator's Demo Day, Cascador's Pitch Day uniquely allows alumni from previous cohorts to participate, extending the program's value beyond a single season. This flexible approach enables startups to seek capital when they are truly ready for scale-up. Cascador's $5 million Catalytic Fund further differentiates itself by offering tailored financing options, including debt, equity, guarantees, and collateral support, in partnership with Sterling Bank, rather than standard deal terms.
Among the seven recipients of the 2026 fund, two secured equity deals: Stears received $450,000, and Indigenius AI was awarded $250,000. Indigenius AI also notably received the $10,000 Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) Prize for Innovation, highlighting its potential in the artificial intelligence sector. The remaining five startups, including Agriarche, Koolboks, Powerstove, First Electric, and Fortics, received substantial debt funding, demonstrating Cascador's diverse support for ventures across various sectors in Nigeria.
The program emphasizes more than just capital, focusing on what judge Daniel Adeoye termed "capital readiness." Founders receive comprehensive support, including customer pipeline development, team training, mentorship, and bespoke assistance, which are crucial for multiplying the impact of their funding. This holistic approach positions Cascador not merely as an accelerator but as an architect of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing the connective tissue necessary for long-term growth and impact in Africa.
Since its inception in 2019, Cascador has supported 70 companies that have collectively raised over $125 million, proving its significant role in the continent's startup landscape. With applications now open for the 2026 ScaleUp Program, Cascador continues to seek out exceptional founders, offering a $5,000 stipend upon completion and $50,000 in pitch prizes, further solidifying its dedication to fostering innovation and economic development across Africa.
