Talent Nation Secures Pre-Seed Funding to Cultivate One Million African AI Engineers

Talent Nation, a Nigerian-founded platform focused on developing AI engineering talent across Africa, has successfully closed an undisclosed pre-seed funding round. Co-founded by prominent entrepreneurs Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Kesiah Valkin, the startup aims to train and deploy one million African AI engineers over the next decade, addressing the growing global demand for skilled AI professionals.

The company's model, Learn2Earn, offers a unique no-upfront-fee training program. It assesses a high volume of applicants, admitting a small percentage into intensive, project-based training across nine campuses in six cities. This approach allows Talent Nation to cultivate a pipeline of certified AI engineers who are then deployed to organizations seeking to build their AI capabilities, including clients like IHS Towers.

Investors, including Enza Capital and LocalGlobe, co-led the round, with participation from several other funds. They recognize the critical role of engineering talent in driving innovation and believe Talent Nation can connect African engineers to valuable work opportunities both within Africa and internationally. The platform's founders argue that AI will increase, rather than decrease, the demand for engineers capable of integrating and refining AI-generated code into robust systems.

This initiative is significant for Africa as it directly addresses the continent's potential to become a major hub for AI talent. By making high-quality AI engineering training accessible and affordable, Talent Nation is empowering a new generation of African professionals and positioning the continent to benefit from the global AI economy, ensuring that the advantages of AI extend beyond well-resourced companies.
