Meta Collaborates with Nigerian Government and RAIN to Launch National AI Academy

Meta has partnered with Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) through its 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), alongside Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN), to establish AI Academy Nigeria. This national initiative aims to bolster Nigeria's AI talent pool and foster innovation within its AI ecosystem. The program is designed to equip Nigerian developers, startups, students, and early-career professionals with essential AI skills and practical training.

The AI Academy Nigeria will offer three main components: AI Skills Development, a Startup Pitchathon, and an intensive Developer Bootcamp. The skills development track provides access to curated courses on generative AI fundamentals, including building applications with Meta's Llama models, prompt engineering, and multimodal AI. These courses, delivered through platforms like Coursera and DeepLearning.AI, are free for participants, with top performers eligible for scholarships and advertising credits.

The Startup Pitchathon invites early-stage Nigerian startups utilizing Meta's AI technologies to present their solutions. Ten shortlisted startups will pitch at GITEX Nigeria, with two winners receiving $5,000 in funding, $2,000 in Meta advertising credits, and an opportunity to pitch at Meta's AI Summit in Istanbul. The Developer Bootcamp, led by RAIN, is a six-week intensive program for selected developers and startups, focusing on hands-on AI product development with expert guidance from Meta's network.

This partnership underscores a significant public-private collaboration, aiming to position Nigeria as a leader in Africa's digital economy by cultivating a robust AI talent pipeline and fostering innovation from learning to market-ready solutions. It directly addresses the need for practical training, funding, and platforms for African founders and developers to build impactful AI solutions.
