Egypt Becomes Konecta's Global Hub for Generative AI Development

Konecta, a Spanish customer experience and business process outsourcing firm, has established its inaugural global center of excellence for generative artificial intelligence in Cairo, Egypt. This significant investment, projected at $100 million, is expected to expand Konecta's Egyptian workforce from 800 to 3,000 specialists by the close of 2028. The Cairo hub will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and deploying generative AI and agentic AI solutions for Konecta's diverse clientele across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

Egypt's selection as the location for this global AI center highlights its strategic efforts to attract high-value digital services. The country is leveraging its substantial pool of multilingual technical graduates, alongside increasingly attractive state incentives, to position itself as a competitive alternative to established offshoring destinations. This move aligns with Egypt's broader governmental strategy to pivot from traditional call-center operations towards more complex, higher-margin services such as software engineering, data analytics, cybersecurity, and advanced AI development.

The Egyptian government's proactive role is evident in its substantial investments in digital infrastructure and expanded technology training programs. Digital services exports have seen rapid growth, nearly doubling in three years to reach $4.8 billion in 2025, with a target of $6 billion by 2026. Konecta's Cairo team already provides AI-enhanced customer experience and technical support in multiple European languages and Arabic, with Egyptian teams contributing to the development and localization of Konecta's agentic AI orchestration platform, Kolibri.

This development is part of a larger trend, as other multinational corporations like Coca-Cola HBC, EY, Alshaya Group, and Deloitte have also recently inaugurated or committed to significant digital and innovation hubs in Cairo. These initiatives underscore Egypt's ambition to move beyond basic services and embed itself deeper into the global technology value chain, fostering the creation of intellectual property and advanced AI solutions for a worldwide market.
