Terra Industries Taps Former Starlink Africa Lead to Drive Autonomous Security Expansion in Global South, Including New Ghana Facility

Terra Industries, a defense technology company specializing in autonomous security systems, has appointed Ben MacWilliams as its new Vice President of Strategy. MacWilliams brings extensive experience from SpaceX, where he led Starlink's market access across all 54 African countries, successfully launching services in over 20 nations and engaging directly with government leaders and regulators.

In his new role, MacWilliams will oversee Terra's global expansion, focusing on navigating regulatory environments and fostering high-level government partnerships to deploy the company's sovereign autonomous defense systems throughout the Global South. His background in scaling satellite broadband infrastructure across Africa is highlighted as crucial for understanding the importance of sovereign defense capabilities in these regions.

This strategic appointment follows significant growth for Terra Industries, including a successful $52 million seed funding round and the establishment of an international office in London. Most notably for Africa, the company announced plans to open Pax-2, an advanced production facility, in Ghana by Q4 2026. This facility will be instrumental in manufacturing their autonomous security technologies, directly impacting the African technology and defense landscape.
