Nigerian Startup Fishcluster Secures $1M for AI-Powered Underwater Robotics in Aquaculture

Fishcluster, a Nigerian startup, has emerged from stealth with $1 million in funding commitments to revolutionize commercial fish farming through AI and robotics. The company aims to address the significant inefficiencies and losses faced by fish farmers, particularly concerning feed management and undetectable underwater issues. Current methods rely heavily on manual observation and imprecise estimations, leading to wasted feed, poor fish health, and reduced yields.
The core of Fishcluster's solution involves a three-pronged approach: the SENTI-100 autonomous underwater robot, the FORGE-200 intelligent feeder, and the FOS 2.4 (Fishcluster OS) software. These integrated tools leverage sensors, computer vision, and AI to monitor critical water parameters like oxygen, pH, temperature, nitrite, and ammonia in real-time. Crucially, the system also tracks fish behavior, size, and weight, providing farmers with unprecedented insights into their pond's conditions and the actual needs of their fish.
The innovation lies not just in the individual components, but in the closed-loop system that connects them. The AI-powered FOS 2.4 analyzes data from the underwater robots and sensors to make intelligent decisions about feed distribution, optimizing the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) which is a key metric for profitability. This proactive approach aims to prevent issues like ammonia buildup and cannibalism among fish, which often go unnoticed with traditional methods, leading to substantial losses for farmers. While the problem is global, Fishcluster is specifically targeting the Nigerian market, where feed can account for up to 87% of operational costs.
