Bujeti Integrates Agentic AI to Automate Financial Operations for African Businesses

Nigerian fintech company Bujeti, backed by Y Combinator, has launched BRAIN (Bujeti’s Real-time Agent Intelligence Network), an agentic AI system designed to automate key financial operations for businesses in Africa. This marks a significant step in applying advanced AI to corporate finance on the continent, moving beyond basic automation to more intelligent, task-specific agents.

The BRAIN platform deploys four distinct AI agents: Fetch for document capture and classification, Chaser for managing accounts receivable, Watchdog for continuous internal auditing, and Concierge for policy queries. While these agents streamline numerous tasks, Bujeti emphasizes a crucial safeguard: they are explicitly prevented from authorizing payments, ensuring human oversight for irreversible financial actions. This approach addresses the inherent anxiety around autonomous software handling sensitive financial transactions.

CEO Cossi Achille Arouko frames this development as the inevitable "third decade of intelligence" for African fintech, following earlier phases focused on consumer and business payments. Bujeti, which started in 2022 and pivoted to corporate expense governance, now serves over 1,000 corporate teams in Nigeria and Kenya, with plans to expand into Francophone Africa. The company reports substantial savings and productivity gains for its clients, highlighting the potential for AI to free up finance professionals from data gathering to more analytical roles.

The strategic integration of agentic AI by an African startup like Bujeti demonstrates a growing trend of developing localized AI solutions tailored to the continent's business environment. By focusing on specific, reversible tasks and maintaining human control over critical decisions, Bujeti aims to build trust and drive efficiency in African corporate finance, setting a precedent for responsible AI deployment in sensitive sectors.
