MTN Leverages AI to Bridge Youth Employment Gap Across Africa

MTN has integrated an AI-powered Job Board into its existing MTN Skills Academy platform, aiming to connect young Africans with employment opportunities. This new feature moves beyond traditional job listings by using artificial intelligence to match users' skills, location, and career aspirations with relevant vacancies. The platform also identifies skill gaps and recommends free courses available through the Skills Academy to help users meet job requirements.

The initiative addresses the critical challenge of youth unemployment and the growing demand for digital skills across African economies. With over 60% of Africa's population under 25 and an estimated 230 million jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa requiring digital skills by 2030, MTN's move seeks to foster economic participation by strengthening the link between skills development and employment.

Available in 11 African markets including South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Rwanda, and Ghana, the MTN Skills Academy has already seen significant engagement since its 2022 launch, with nearly 526,000 enrollments. The platform offers training in various digital competencies like coding, data analytics, and AI, issuing certified digital certificates upon completion. The addition of the AI Job Board is a strategic expansion, enhancing the academy's role from purely training to actively facilitating career progression and economic inclusion for young Africans.
