South African AI Startup Cue Raises $5 Million to Scale Customer Service Automation
Cue, a South African company specializing in customer service software, has successfully secured US$5 million in a funding round co-led by Knife Capital and FAM Investments. This investment is earmarked to accelerate the development of its AI-powered platform, which helps businesses automate and enhance customer interactions. The funding follows a previous US$2 million raise earlier in 2024, signaling growing investor confidence in the company's vision and technology.
Established in 2015, Cue provides solutions that enable companies to manage customer conversations efficiently through chatbots and live chat across various channels, including WhatsApp and social media. The platform currently serves over 500 businesses and brands in both South Africa and the United Kingdom, facilitating quick and effective customer support.
A key offering from Cue is its AI Agents service, launched in late 2024. These agents empower businesses to automate routine inquiries, deliver personalized customer experiences, and manage service at scale. The new capital will be crucial for ongoing product development, expanding into new international markets, and making deeper investments in voice technology, security features, and enterprise integrations.
According to Richard Nischk, CEO of Cue, the company is at a pivotal moment for AI in customer service. He highlights a growing recognition among businesses for the need for a unified platform rather than disparate point solutions. This development underscores the increasing adoption of autonomous AI to resolve customer issues end-to-end.
For Africa, Cue's successful funding round represents a significant boost for the continent's burgeoning AI and tech startup ecosystem. It showcases the potential for African-founded companies to innovate in advanced technological fields and attract substantial investment, ultimately contributing to job creation and technological advancement within the region.
