Kenya and AWS Forge Deeper AI and Digital Skills Partnership

Kenya is actively strengthening its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate the nation's digital transformation agenda. The partnership, discussed during a visit by Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo, to AWS offices in Nairobi, focuses on critical areas including digital skills development, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and enhanced connectivity.

A key aspect of this collaboration is the expansion of digital upskilling initiatives. The AWS re/Start program has already trained thousands of Kenyans in cloud computing, boasting a 45% job placement rate. Kenya aims to scale these successful programs by utilizing existing infrastructure like Jitume Digital Hubs and fostering stronger ties with universities and tertiary institutions. This strategic approach ensures that young Kenyans acquire practical, industry-relevant skills essential for the evolving digital economy.

The Kenyan government, through CS Kabogo, emphasized its commitment to working with AWS to advance digital skills, e-government services, AI capabilities, and connectivity, particularly targeting underserved communities.
