Egypt's Financial Regulator Greenlights More AI Insurance Projects for Sandbox Testing

Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has approved two additional AI-driven insurance projects for its regulatory sandbox, bringing the total to seven within the program's first year. This makes insurance the most represented sector among applicants, a trend that contrasts with other African markets like South Africa, where AI adoption in insurance has been notably lower than in banking or fintech.
The newly approved projects include an AI assistant called Ameen, developed by EG InsurTech and Assurex Insurance Brokerage, and an AI Voice Agent and Chatbot Platform from Allianz Insurance Egypt, in collaboration with Olimi AI. These initiatives aim to enhance customer experience by improving the analysis of trends, preferences, grievances, and product demand. The sandbox provides a supervised environment for testing these applications before their commercial launch.
The inclusion of a global insurer like Allianz Egypt alongside local firms highlights the sandbox's role as a neutral testing ground, fostering innovation under equal terms. This structured approach, where regulatory frameworks for digital identity, contracts, and infrastructure were established prior to the sandbox's launch, positions Egypt as a leader in responsible AI development on the continent. The FRA's efforts align with Egypt's National AI Strategy, which seeks to grow its AI company count significantly by 2030, reinforcing the country's commitment to becoming a regional AI hub.
