Egypt Unveils First Sovereign AI Factory Through Vodafone and Cassava Technologies Partnership

Vodafone Business and Cassava Technologies have launched Egypt's inaugural AI factory, a strategic move to establish sovereign artificial intelligence infrastructure within the country. This collaboration leverages Vodafone Egypt's enterprise capabilities with Cassava Technologies' NVIDIA-powered cloud infrastructure, providing local organizations with GPU-as-a-Service for hosting, processing, and operating AI applications while ensuring data residency within Egypt.

The initiative is designed to bolster Egypt's digital sovereignty, enhance data protection and cybersecurity, and position the nation as a regional hub for AI and advanced technology. The AI factory will offer a comprehensive full-stack infrastructure environment, enabling government entities and businesses to develop and deploy AI workloads for model training and inference at scale, aligning with growing global demand for sovereign computing alternatives.

Ahmed El Beheiry, Group Chief Technology & AI Officer and CEO of Cassava AI, emphasized that this partnership empowers African businesses to transition from merely consuming global technology to actively participating in global AI innovation. Beyond infrastructure, the collaboration includes training and enablement programs within the NVIDIA ecosystem, fostering AI skill development and attracting further investment into Egypt's burgeoning digital economy and advanced data centers.

This investment is part of Vodafone Egypt's broader commitment, with plans to inject over $385 million in the current fiscal year. The AI factory is expected to significantly contribute to Egypt's ambition of cultivating a robust digital economy and meeting the increasing demand for AI and advanced computing capabilities across the country.
