SoleCrypt to Build Major Solar-Powered AI Data Center in Tunisia, Leveraging NVIDIA Tech and Subsea Cables

SoleCrypt, a London-based company, has unveiled plans for a substantial AI campus in Bizerte, Tunisia. This facility will be powered by a dedicated 60MW solar and battery storage project located in Tozeur, in Tunisia's southern desert, with an initial phase of 7MW targeting operations by 2028. The campus is designed around NVIDIA's HGX Rubin NVL8 platform, featuring up to 1,728 GPUs, positioning it as a significant step towards sovereign AI infrastructure in North Africa.

The strategic location of Bizerte is crucial for its connectivity, being just 3.6km via fiber from the Medusa subsea cable. This proximity promises ultra-low latency, under 10 milliseconds, to Europe, effectively establishing Tunisia as a digital bridge between Africa and Europe. This infrastructure aims to serve industrial players, fintechs, and AI laboratories across both continents.

SoleCrypt has partnered with several key players for this ambitious project, including Hosted.AI, Meinhardt, Maerifa Solutions, Supermicro, Schneider Electric, and Sterling & Wilson Data Center. A memorandum of understanding with Schneider Electric outlines their collaboration, with SoleCrypt providing sites and connectivity, and Schneider acting as a technology adviser, supplying AI data center architectures, power systems, liquid cooling, and infrastructure management software. This initiative highlights Tunisia's potential to become a Mediterranean super hub for sustainable digital infrastructure, fostering innovation and economic growth in the region.
