Huawei Unveils Agentic AI Cloud in Nigeria, Boosting Local AI Infrastructure

Huawei has launched its Agentic AI Cloud in Nigeria, a significant move to advance the country's artificial intelligence capabilities from experimental stages to practical business and public-sector applications. This new cloud infrastructure, unveiled at the Huawei Nigeria AI & Cloud Summit in Lagos, is designed to enable organizations to develop and deploy AI agents with reduced latency, while ensuring compliance with local data residency, security, and regulatory requirements.

The initiative is particularly aimed at key sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, internet services, government, and large enterprises. AI agents, which can execute sequences of tasks and interact with other systems, are expected to automate workflows and enhance decision-making across these industries, moving beyond basic AI tools like chatbots.

This launch aligns with Nigeria's broader strategy to build a robust AI ecosystem. Government officials, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, emphasized that AI readiness requires not just advanced models, but also reliable connectivity, secure cloud infrastructure, skilled professionals, and strong collaboration between government and industry. Huawei, with its 27-year presence in Nigeria, aims to be a foundational partner in this national effort, building on its existing cloud infrastructure and fostering local AI development.
