South African Consortium Launches Major AI Cloud with 400+ Nvidia GPUs

A partnership between South African cloud provider Stratos Lab, AI infrastructure company Ecoblox, and data centre operator Digital Parks Africa has announced the deployment of a significant AI cloud infrastructure platform in South Africa. This new platform will leverage over 400 Nvidia B300 HGX servers, providing 7.2 exaflops of computing performance specifically for AI and high-performance computing workloads.
The initiative aims to address the critical need for high-performance AI computing capacity within Africa, allowing businesses and developers to access advanced resources locally rather than relying on overseas infrastructure. Stratos Lab will offer GPU-as-a-service, managed platform-as-a-service, and bare-metal computing, supporting AI model training, inference, and AI-agent applications.
Ecoblox is responsible for systems integration, GPU cluster design, and the infrastructure software stack, while Digital Parks Africa provides the necessary data centre facilities and specialized power management for these ultra-dense AI workloads. This collaboration marks a substantial step forward for regional innovation, offering a scalable and sustainable foundation for sovereign AI development in Africa.
The deployment utilizes newer generations of accelerated computing infrastructure, specifically Nvidia's B300 platform, positioning South Africa at the forefront of AI infrastructure development on the continent. This project is particularly significant given the increasing demand for AI computing and the existing constraints African organizations face in accessing high-end GPUs and robust data centre infrastructure.
