Rwandan Startup Entelon Develops AI Solutions for African Organizations Transitioning from Paper-Based Systems

Entelon, a startup founded in Kigali, Rwanda, is pioneering AI products and custom systems designed for African organizations that still heavily rely on manual, paper-based processes. Recognizing that many global AI tools are built for digitally mature environments, Entelon focuses on creating solutions that meet organizations where they are, addressing the unique operational realities of the continent, including diverse languages and existing infrastructure.
The company offers a suite of specialized AI products. Mamora AI is a community wellbeing platform for early disease outbreak detection. Visko digitizes questionnaires, transcribes interviews, and automatically generates clean datasets. Klok AI assists teachers by reading handwritten exams and suggesting marks, while Phibram analyzes call center conversations for service quality insights. Additionally, HeyRwanda is a companion app for visitors, offering navigation, voice translation, and payment functionalities.
Beyond its product line, Entelon also develops custom AI systems, including voice agents, workflow automation, and data analysis tools tailored for individual organizations. A key aspect of their work involves conducting proprietary research, such as training a Kinyarwanda text-to-speech model and co-developing a Kinyarwanda LLM, to ensure their voice products are effective for local languages often underserved by global technologies.
Entelon is currently bootstrapped, funded by revenue from its custom AI projects and product contracts. The startup is gaining significant traction, handling over 1,000 AI interactions daily. Mamora AI alone serves over 500 users through community health workers, with more than 1,200 reports filed. While initially focused on Rwanda, Entelon plans to expand its solutions across East Africa, targeting research organizations, banks, and schools with its proven products.
